Tracking you on the internet without using cookies

It used to be that web sites would use cookies to be able to identify you and store parameters about you for the next time you visit their site (ie: user name, preferences, etc...)

But these days, lots of people turn off cookies to try to remain anonymous.  This is no longer good enough.  What sites have started doing is identifying you using a combination of parameters that they receive when you connect to their site.

These identifying parameters include things like screen resolution, which browser you use, which plugins you have installed, which fonts you have installed, etc...

Based on this, they can construct a unique fingerprint for your computer to identify you.

Would you like to know if your computer has a unique and trackable fingerprint?  This site will tell you:  http://panopticlick.eff.org/
