My new LG LED TV - to calibrate or not to calibrate

A few days ago I bought a new TV from BestBuy. It's a 42 inch LG LED TV. Compared to my old TV (a 32 inch Magnavox LCD TV), this one is unbelievable!  The picture quality is so good that it seems like you're looking through a window into the studio.

I'm planning to buy the WiFi dongle that LG sells so that I can stream video directly from my laptop to the TV instead of wrestling with cables. The sales guy told me that only the LG WiFi dongle would work and I wasn't sure I believed him so I tried out my own WiFi dongle and he was right.  I'm gonna wait a bit though before I spend $70+ on the thing.

Speaking of not believing the sales guy, he tried to sell the service to have the TV professionally calibrated.  Apparently this costs $300 normally and he was offering it for $200.  I've heard this before, that TVs in the stores are turned up to maximum brightness to make them look good in the bright store (aka: torch mode).  But when I got the TV home, it walked me though a setup wizard that let me adjust the brightness, contrast, temperature, etc...  Now I consider myself a movie buff, but I'm certainly no video connoisseur.  The picture on the TV is more than adequate and I would have felt cheated out of $200 if I had gone with the calibration.

The TV is also able to play most standard video formats.  I plugged an external 1TB hard drive into the TV's USB port.  I was able to traverse through the directory structure and play videos either in MKV, AVI, MP4 and other format.  A no-brainer

I highly recommend this TV to anyone but would not fork out the cash to have your TV calibrated.
